Jefferson Bike Co, Receives Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) Award
This award for Yreka’s Jefferson Bike Company builds on the goals of Yreka’s RERC Action plan, by accelerating the shop's efforts to create a memorable destination, and connect community and visitors to its awe-inspiring outdoors.
[August 19, 2023 Yreka, Calif.] Yreka is among four rural communities to be awarded funding by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable to further support the outdoor recreation economy in Yreka. This award for Jefferson Mountain Bike Company and shop owner, Bill Robberson, builds on the goals of Yreka’s RERC Action plan, by accelerating the shop's efforts to create a memorable destination, and connect community and visitors to Yreka’s outdoors.
In August, Yreka was recognized by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable for its participation in the Rural Recreation Economy (RERC) planning process and for providing an outstanding proposal to further support the outdoor recreation economy in Yreka. In a highly competitive field of applicants, four rural communities—including Yreka, will receive a $10,000 Rural Implementation Grant, and in-kind technical assistance. The Siskiyou County Economic Development Council submitted the competitive application in July.
It was important to our team that this funding be directed to a business that not only benefits Yreka’s outdoor recreation economy, but that exemplifies community leadership and innovation," said Tonya Dowse, Executive Director, Siskiyou County Economic Development Council.
The $10,000 award will help position the Jefferson Bike Company as a central hub for the community with contemporary renovations, a curated marketing campaign and dedicated online booking to appeal to travelers along the Interstate-5 corridor between San Francisco and Portland.
Owner, Bill Robberson, has a dedicated history of increasing mountain biking accessibility for the Siskiyou County community— the Jefferson Bike Company exemplifies leading work in Yreka’s recreation economy. This project award is an example of how the Siskiyou County Economic Development Council works collaboratively to support tourism and regional business development in the region and through Yreka’s RERC plan.
