A New Chapter for the Landing in Mt. Shasta

Representatives from the City of Mt. Shasta, the SEDC, EPA, Geocon, Logan Simpson, and several key community members met in May to help Logan Simpson illustrate local, conceptual ideas for the Log Pond, which is a designated wetland in the North area of the Landing.

For two decades, the Siskiyou County Economic Development Council (SEDC) has partnered with the City of Mt. Shasta to direct EPA Brownfield funding to prepare The Landing for its next use. The 127-acre former industrial site is now officially clean, marking a major milestone for the City of Mt. Shasta. The City and SEDC are excited about future redevelopment opportunities and proud of the years of work invested in preparing the site.

In May, the SEDC received a technical assistance award from the EPA to engage the firm, Logan Simpson, to provide a conceptual charrette for the Log Pond. The charrette will show how the commercial-adjacent wetland could be designed to connect walking, and biking experiences at a key nexus, in Mt. Shasta.

Logan Simpson met with several community stakeholders, to understand community vision for the former Log Pond. Representatives from the Mt. Shasta Trails Association, SORA and Tom Hesseldenz & Associates Ecological Landscape Architecture were in attendance.

"Tom has worked for 40 years to articulate a vision in Mt. Shasta, where biking, walking, and hiking intersect at key points in the City, starting at the mountain, flowing through the city, and connecting to Lake Siskiyou. Tom’s vision and previous renderings were invaluable during Logan Simpson’s visit to Mt. Shasta," explained Kory Hayden, SEDC Program Manager.

The Siskiyou EDC will hold a celebration and community input event on July 10th, to recognize 40 years of important work to prepare the Landing for its next use, and to inform Logan Simpson’s design charrette.
